Launch of Slow Food Ubud: December 5th, 2009

Save the date!

You are invited to attend the launch of Bali’s first Slow Food Convivium – a group of people who grow food, cook food or just plain love food. We are dedicated to preserving, protecting and promoting the foods and animals that are sustainably produced in Bali.

We’re celebrating the establishment of our Convivium with a private, by-invitation-only dinner at Linda Garland’s estate. A line-up of chefs and a delectable dinner menu is now being planned and we’ll send you all the details as soon as we have them. Meanwhile, please keep December 5th free for a unique, delicious and informative evening – what we hope will be the first of many!

This event is limited to 50 seats, so please look for the invite to be posted next week and confirm your attendance by emailing slowfoodubud@gmail.com.

About the Slow Food Movement

Slow Food was established in Italy in 1986 as a direct result of McDonalds opening an outlet in Rome. Italians were incensed; fast food was the antithesis of their cuisine. Slow Food was created to promote food culture and to defend locally produced foods and agriculture biodiversity worldwide. It opposes the standardization of taste, defends the need for consumer information, protects cultural identities tied to food and gastronomic traditions, safeguards foods and cultivation and processing techniques inherited from tradition, and defends domestic and wild animal and vegetable species.

Today, over 100,000 people all over the world support the Slow Food movement through Convivia, or groups which hold events in their communities to raise awareness about food issues.

For more information on Slow Food, or to become a member of our local convivium, please visit the international website: www.slowfood.com

Welcome to Slow Food Ubud!

Welcome to the site of Bali's first Slow Food Convivium, a branch of Slow Food International.

We are a passionate group of foodies with a mission to preserve, protect and promote Bali’s food products, especially those which are integral to the culinary heritage of Bali and surrounding islands. Our group also serves to educate both local and visiting consumers about the benefits of traditional products versus conventional/mass-produced alternatives.

Be sure to subscribe to our RSS feed to get updates on our events and the Slow Food movement here in Bali. Or to be on our mailing list to be notified of upcoming events, please send us an email at slowfoodubud@gmail.com with "Put me on the list!" in the subject line.
